Mahbubnagar (Telangana) [India], December 23 (ANI): Amid a controversy over the Sandhya theatre incident in Telangana, Congress leader Anirudh Reddy on Monday accused actor Allu Arjun of using the public’s excitement for his own commercial gain.
“What happened at the Sandhya theatre was an unfortunate incident due to the visit of actor Allu Arjun…What he is doing is business, he is an actor, if the public comes, he will get more movies and money…but today it is a very serious issue, a mother died and the son is battling for his life but when he (Allu Arjun) got bail, so many actors came to his residence and they were hugging him and smiling, that was not a good scene…whoever has done wrong, has to be sent to jail and action has to be taken so the law is taking its course,” the Congress leader said.
The tragedy occurred on December 4 when Allu Arjun attended the premiere of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule.’
A massive crowd gathered to see him, and the situation escalated when he waved to fans from the sunroof of his car. This resulted in the death of a woman named Revathi and injuries to her child. Following the incident, Allu Arjun was arrested and later released on bail after furnishing a Rs 50,000 bond.
Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated in the Assembly that the police had denied permission for any event at Sandhya Theatre due to safety concerns. However, despite these warnings, Allu Arjun allegedly attended the premiere, climbed onto his car roof, and conducted a roadshow at RTC X Road, which triggered the chaos.
Meanwhile, a case was registered against six members of the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OU-JAC) for allegedly vandalising actor Allu Arjun’s residence amid the row over Sandhya Theatre Tragedy.
The incident happened when some started sloganeering outside the ‘Pushpa’ actor’s residence by chanting slogans and holding placards. One of the protestors mounted the compound and started throwing tomatoes.
Protestors also allegedly manhandled the security staff and damaged some flower pots along the ramp.
However, all the six accused were granted bail, a lawyer said, adding that they were produced before a Hyderabad court on Monday morning.
Advocate Ramdas, appearing for the accused, said that these students of Osmania University were protesting peacefully when the police attacked them, prompting them to act in self-defence.
“The students of Osmania Univesity were demonstrating peacefully. When the police force attacked them, they acted in their self-defence. Police filed a case against them. After their appearance before the judge today, six people have been given bail without any conditions and a fine,” Ramdas told ANI. (ANI)
