New Delhi [India], January 20 (ANI): Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Monday condemned Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi’s ‘fighting the state’ remark, alleging him of speaking the language of those who want to break the country.
Meghwal said that despite holding a responsible position, Rahul Gandhi challenged the sovereignty of the country.
“Rahul Gandhi is in a responsible position; he is the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. If he criticises the Prime Minister, the BJP, we can understand, but how can he criticise the country? The statement he has given about fighting the Indian state, he is speaking the language of those who want to break the country,” the Union Minister said.
“When the BJP objected to this, the Congress spokesperson came to his defence. They said that in Article 12 of the Constitution, the Indian state means institutions; they forgot that this is a chapter of fundamental rights… You are challenging the sovereignty of the country and you are sitting in a responsible position. This statement of Rahul Gandhi has been criticised and condemned across the country,” he added.
The Union Minister’s remarks come after Rahul Gandhi, while inaugurating the party’s new headquarters, ‘Indira Bhawan,’ in New Delhi on January 15, hit out at the BJP and said that the Congress and other opposition parties were not just fighting the BJP but the Indian state itself.
“Our ideology, like the RSS ideology, is thousands of years old and it has been fighting the RSS ideology for thousands of years. Do not think that we are fighting a fair fight. There is no fairness in this. If you believe that we are fighting a political organisation called the BJP or RSS, you have not understood what is going on. The BJP and the RSS have captured every single institution of our country. We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS and the Indian state itself,” he said.
“We do not know whether our institutions are working or are nonfunctional. It is pretty clear what the media is up to. Even people know that media is no longer free and fair,” he added. (ANI)
