Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], January 27 (ANI): Veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh came down heavily at Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over his recent post on X (formerly Twitter), where Chouhan accused Congress of insulting BR Ambedkar, stating that “the union minister has a habit of lying”.
The Congress also claimed that the decision to build a memorial of Ambedkar at his birthplace in Indore’s Mhow was taken during former CM late Arjun Singh’s government in the 1980s.
“Shivraj Singh Chouhan has a habit of lying. He is taught to lie and he is an expert in it. It is a blatant lie, I have also given clarification in my post on X. Firstly, the decision to build the memorial in Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s birthplace Mhow was taken by the former CM late Arjun Singh government in the 1980s. When Motilal Vora ji became the Chief Minister of the state, he talked to the architect and got the design prepared,” Singh told ANI.
He further said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have the habit of taking possession of temple, math and to collect the credit they (BJP government) laid the foundation stone of it (Ambedkar’s memorial). In 1991, the BJP lost power in the state and I became the Chief Minister in 1993. All the construction was done during my tenure. I challenge him (Chouhan) to prove it wrong.”
“I would say that Shivraj Singh Chauhan ji should apologise,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had posted on X, accused the Congress party of consistently insulting Ambedkar and failing to honour his legacy during their rule in Madhya Pradesh. He also advised Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to apologise before Babasaheb’s memorial.
“Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, you both are coming to Mhow today; do visit the grand memorial at the birthplace of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in Mhow, which has been built by the Bharatiya Janata Party government. Along with this, also apologise by closing your eyes in front of Baba Saheb’s memorial because you and your party always insulted Baba Saheb. After independence, Congress governments ruled Madhya Pradesh for decades but Congress neither held any event at his birthplace nor thought about building a memorial,” Chouhan said in a post on X.
The Union Minister also claimed that the Congress party had stopped the construction of the memorial when they came to power, but the BJP government completed it when they returned to office.
“When the Bharatiya Janata Party government was formed in Madhya Pradesh, the then Chief Minister Late Sundar Lal Patwa ji performed the Bhoomi Pujan of the memorial in Mhow. After that, the Congress government came to power and the work was stopped there. Then again the BJP government came and I became the Chief Minister, then we built a divine and grand memorial in honour of Baba Saheb,” he further wrote. (ANI)
