New Delhi [India], December 23 (ANI): Ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena on Monday wrote to Aam Aadmi Party chief and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and held him “responsible” for the pollution level in river Yamuna.
In the letter, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor attacked Kejriwal and said that the Yamuna has reached its “highest level of pollution” this year.
“I will personally hold you responsible for this, since you had filed a petition in the Supreme Court and stopped the cleaning work being done in the Yamuna. I have repeatedly requested you to personally go out in the city and assess the situation,” he stated in the letter.
He further said, “Day before yesterday also I had requested you through my post on “X” to visit Rangpuri and Kapashera, but on this occasion also you did not go there yourself, but instead you thought it appropriate to send your own declared temporary Chief Minister, Atishi there.”
VK Saxena said that he will continue to draw attention to these issues in future as well.
“Anyway, it is a matter of happiness that now you have started taking cognizance of your responsibilities and after ten years, you have started seeing the worsening condition of Delhi and the plight and helplessness of the people. I assure you that I will continue to draw your attention to these issues in future as well,” the Delhi LG stated in the letter.
He also criticised the delay in tackling issues such as Yamuna pollution, road repairs, and sewer desilting, holding the Delhi government accountable for the lack of progress.
On December 22, the Bharatiya Janata Party criticised Delhi Chief Minister Atishi for only visiting Ragpuri Pahari and other areas after Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena drew attention to the lack of facilities for the people.
Earlier, Delhi LG Saxena had posted on his official X account about the situation of the people in areas such as Burari, Kiradi, Kalandar Colony, Sangam Vihar etc.
Atishi visited the Rangpuri Pahari area to interact with the residents there and talk about the work which started on New Rohtak Road.
Posting a video and showing the situation of the people, LG Saxena claimed, “The stinking water accumulated on the streets and roads is not from rain but from overflowing sewers. It was extremely disappointing and disturbing to see the helplessness and miserable lives of lakhs of people in the capital again yesterday.”
“For the last two years, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has been trying to wake up the Delhi government but today when the exam time came, the Chief Minister of Delhi Ms. Atishi reached Rangpuri Hill to pretend innocence,” read a statement by the Delhi BJP. (ANI)
